You Know You're a Circus Performer If... A humorous view of circus life

Submitted by Maria Balogh on   12/16/2007

We all know that performing in a circus and learning circus skills is very serious buisness and requires a lot of hard work, sore muscles and dedication.  But life is too short to be taken seriously all of the time.  Miss Maria Balogh from Circus Juventas has come up with a great suggestion that we include some  humorous and inspirational views of being a circus performer that I'm sure you can all relate to!

Circus4Youth invites young circus performers, both professional and from all youth circuses to send in their own suggestions for this list!  Send them to: circus4youth@earthlink.net  Please include your name and the name of your circus or act.

~you usually smell of a mix between rosin, chalk and deoderant. Occasionally lotion, but only on days you don't have a partner act

~"HUP" has become a general call to action (ex: you count down to pictures ending with a HUP)

~you know the difference between Swinging Trapeze, Double Trapeze, Triangle Trapeze and Flying Trapeze, and don't know what to say when people ask you if you do "the trapeze"

~you constantly have (rather large) bruises/burns on your arms and legs from numerous acts, and explaining these can be interesting

~ you have ever seen anyone on a bicycle and thought "why the extra wheel?"

~ You hate it when they play "Wipeout" on the oldies radio station, as you have had too many embarassing wipeouts yourself.
